Xtera Communications Installation Services

Xtera Installation Services result in the on-time, stable, reliable in-service operation of Xtera platforms.

Xtera Services deliver the vital resources, expertise, and tools needed for successful network implementations. It ensures an ‘Xtera Certified’ installation that is compliant with all Xtera Engineering recommendations, procedures and practices, resulting in the on-time, stable, reliable in-service operation of Xtera platforms.

Customers can request basic network implementation and turn-up support, or select from optional implementation services such as site survey, network staging, installation and commissioning in accordance with individual business needs, specifications and requirements.

Xtera's basic implementation service deliverables include:

  • A comprehensive review of the existing design document used to specify the network, or assistance to create a comprehensive installation project plan and information package.
  • Site survey and optical fiber characterization; this defines and clarifies any deficiencies or requirements necessary pre-installation, and also clarifies which party will have ownership for addressing and correcting any issues arising.
  • Procurement of installation materials.
  • Creation, verification, and loading of software configurations such as Role Based Access Control, pre-provisioning defaults and routing parameters, to ensure optimum functionality.
  • On-site installation including loading of final configurations, provisioning, connection to facilities, testing and 'cut-over' per the pre-established schedule and acceptance plan.
  • Engineering documentation to reflect the 'as-built' state of the network.

Detailed Activities for Implementation Services:

Site survey

This includes:

  • A detailed review of the intended site(s) and available utilities in relation to Xtera Engineering standards.
  • Detailed characterization of the optical fiber plant to ensure actual performance meets network design inputs (where appropriate).

Site engineering

This includes:

  • Creating specifications and related documentation and drawings in the network implementation plan (including rack evaluations, cable run lists and other information regarding power, configurations, etc.).
  • Verifying hardware, software, and firmware revisions as needed.
  • Developing project staging plan as part of the network implementation plan (where appropriate).

Staging (optional)

This includes:

  • Receiving product at the staging site and providing an inventory.
  • Assembling devices as specified in the network implementation plan.
  • Loading customer software configuration and test products as outlined in the network implementation plan.
  • Packaging and shipping product to each customer location.

Installation and commissioning

This includes:

  • Unpacking, detailing, inspecting, installing and powering-up the equipment.
  • Loading customer configurations in all network elements.
  • Connecting customer facilities and inter-connects and performing pre-agreed tests.
  • Performing a 'cut-over' of the equipment to go live as per the pre-agreed schedule.
  • Completing the network ‘as-built’ documentation.

Throughout the design and implementation phases of this network deployment, Xtera will provide Project Management services to cover the implementation and turn-up for customer equipment along the routes specified in the network implementation plan.
