ELECTRONIC ENGINEER

GLOBAL COMMUNICATION INFRASTRUCTURE

We are looking for an enthusiastic all-rounder to join the Xtera Product Design team to develop state of the art telecommunications equipment for use in subsea cable systems. This encompasses both high reliability submerged and terrestrial equipment. The role involves working with a broad range of products that contain a mix of electronic and electro-optic technologies.

EXPERIENCE

Design of circuits to provide the functionality required for a particular product.
Use of schematic tools to capture circuit designs.
Experience of the processes of PCB layout and manufacturing, and PCB population.
Generation of appropriate documentation.
The ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and written, for the presentation of new designs in peer reviews and formal product reviews.
Review and provide input to designs being developed by peers, throughout the design cycle.

TECHNOLOGY

Digital electronics – microcontrollers, memory devices, FPGAs (VHDL, from specification through to verification), serial interfaces – SPI, I2C and Ethernet.
Analogue electronics – op-amps, filters, DC-DC convertors, ADCs, and DACs.
Electro-Optics – Lasers, PINs, Modulators.

QUALIFICATIONS

Honours Degree in Electronics Engineering or Physics with Electronics.

This position would suit a graduate with 2 or more years’ experience of product development in the telecommunications sector.

This exciting role is offered where flexible working hours and remote-working are possible. A certain level of travel may be necessary both in the UK and abroad.

MARINE PROJECT ENGINEER

Industry: Global Communication Infrastructure

Xtera is looking for a Marine Project Engineer who will plan and manage the offshore part of subsea cable projects. The ideal candidate will be able to work as part of a great team in a dynamic project environment.

The role is truly multi-disciplinary as it involves interfacing with a number of different exciting aspects, e.g. submerged and land-based equipment, transmission technology, surveys at various locations as well as cable manufacturing and installation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Candidates should be able to drive or perform all key aspects of marine engineering and project management, such as:

Project Development
- Provide bid support, e.g. review budgetary estimates from Xtera’s subcontractors and provide inputs including Plans of Work and descriptive material related to marine installation for bids and tender responses towards Xtera’s customers
- Support preparation of Requests for Quotation (RFQ) for all marine contractors (including desk top studies, marine surveys, shore end operations, marine installation, and land cable operations) and evaluate responses as required for projects and proposals
- Support negotiations for contracts with the selected suppliers from RFQ process, and help manage throughout project execution
Project Execution
- Work as part of Xtera’s Project Management team during project execution towards meeting Plan of Work dates, managing the budget and mitigating risks
- Work on marine planning, equipment requirements, spares quantities, jointing piece parts, maintenance best practices and documentation
- Participate in regular reports and meetings e.g. Route or Marine Working Groups, and other progress meetings as required
- Assist with other marine operations such as cable and pipeline crossings, fisheries liaison, guard vessels, and cable awareness programs
- Support recruitment and management of shipboard representatives for marine operations
Other
- Represent Xtera in marine related organizations (e.g. ICPC, ESCA) and at relevant conferences

REQUIREMENTS

Ideally at least 2 years experience in marine operations or significant experience in a project management position in the marine installation industry
Knowledge and experience of subsea cable installations, including good technical knowledge of submerged cable installation equipment and practices
Strong planning and project management skills for marine installation projects, both for bids and customer projects
Familiarity with quality, health and safety standards
Proven communication and negotiation skills
Full driving license and willingness to travel worldwide

We are seeking a Materials/Logistics Manager to join our Team in McKinney, Texas.

RESPONISIBILITIES

Work closely with Customer Service/Project Management and Accounting for deployment, billing and invoicing activities
Review Quotes from Sales, PO’s from Customers, BOM’s in Agile and PO’s for accuracy and consistency
Communicate Project Plans to appropriate groups
Working with Sales and Manufacturing to develop forecasts that minimize delivery timetables
Work with Accounting to accurately track costs related to projects, tasks or activities
Interface with Engineering to develop timetables on Prototype products
Manage RMA's back from customers into the production flow for repair/return with minimal impact to production activities.

PROJECT MANAGER

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to manage subsea telecoms installation projects as part of a skilled team. This includes coordination and management of engineering, design, supply chain, field works and acceptance with the objective of delivering the project on time and on budget.

The role is truly multi-disciplinary as it involves understanding and orchestrating a number of different exciting aspects, e.g. submerged and land-based equipment, transmission technology, surveys at various locations, cable manufacturing or installation. It also involves working with several contributors, both internal and external to Xtera.

Another key element of the role is being the interface between Xtera and the customer. As such you are expected to play a key role in the day-by-day communication with the customer as well as facilitating efficient communication with other parties involved in the project, such as consultants or subcontractors.

RESPONISIBILITIES

- Project performance monitoring
  - Plan of Work (MS Project) and resource planning and tracking
  - Budget and cash flow tracking
  - Action and risk registers
  - Quality assurance
- Reporting – internally and externally
  - Regular project reporting including creating and reviewing minutes
  - Customer reports, generated for specific technical or operational reasons
  - Interface for all formal communication with the customer, stakeholders and sponsors
  - Management of documentation exchange and schedule
  - Organize and chair calls as well as Customer Coordination Meetings (CCM)

  - Collaborate with engineers, system architects to determine the specifications of the project
  - Negotiate contracts with external vendors to reach mutually beneficial agreements
  - Drive supply chain for equipment and materials and monitor stocks to timely handle potential short falls
  - Work with Supply Chain team to address and mitigate schedule risks
- Delivery and Installation
  - Monitor acquisition of permits and licenses from various authorities and governing entities
  - Determine project resources (personnel, equipment, and materials) from start to finish of the project, with due attention to budgetary limitations
  - Plan all installation operations and schedule intermediate phases to meet deadlines
  - Hire contractors and other staff, assigning responsibilities as the project dictates
  - Supervise the work of subcontractors and liaise with their project managers
- General
  - Manage Xtera project team including consultants and subcontractors
  - Maintain quality records g. test procedures, test results, qualification procedures
  - Ensure adherence to all health and safety standards and report issues
  - Identify costs of ongoing activities and ensure that these are compared with the budget

REQUIREMENTS

Proven experience as a project manager, ideally in submarine cable construction or related industries
In-depth understanding of applicable procedures and project management principles (Project Management qualification, PMP or similar will be a plus)
Understanding of key technologies associated with submarine cable projects
Familiarity with quality and health and safety standards
Good knowledge of MS Office including MS Project
Proven communication and negotiation skills
Excellent organizational and time-management skills
A team player with leadership abilities and adaptability
Full driving license and willingness to travel worldwide
