President and Chief Executive Officer
Jon Hopper joined Xtera in 2004 and serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer. Jon has a very successful track record taking emerging companies with innovative products and building them into profitable global commercial enterprises capable of supporting multi-national customers.
Prior to Xtera, Jon spent 15 years as the Chief Executive of several capital equipment companies. Those companies include Dynamotion Corp. (merged with ESI, NASDAQ ESIO) and IRSI (merged with Photon Dynamics, NASDAQ PHTN). Jon has also held senior management positions at Photon Dynamics and ESI.
Executive Vice President, Global Operations
Keith Henderson joined Xtera in 2004 and serves as the Senior Vice President of Global Operations that encompasses all Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Customer Service activities. Keith is a Chartered Engineer and has over 20 years of experience in Operations management and has encompassed a wide range of responsibilities with companies ranging from venture funded start-up companies to multi-national organizations.
Prior to Xtera, Keith held the position of Operations Director in BAe Systems (Scotland) with responsibility for Electro Optical Systems and Sensors for Avionic applications. Keith also had a career in STC and Alcatel specializing in the design and development of submarine fiber optic cables.
Senior Vice President and General Manager, Xtera Submarine Business
Dr Stuart Barnes joined Xtera in 2007 and serves as the Chief Technical Officer of Submarine Systems. Dr. Barnes has over 30 years of experience in the submarine telecommunications business and provides practical skills in fiber, cable and transmission equipment.
Prior to Xtera, Dr Barnes was the founder and COO of Polariq, as well as founder and CTO of both Azea Networks and of ilotron in the UK. In addition, Dr. Barnes has held senior management positions at Atlas Venture, Alcatel Recherche, STC Submarine Systems and STC Cables Newport. Dr Barnes received his post-doctoral degree from QMC, London University, England and is Visiting Professor to School of Electronics and Computer Science, Southampton University, England. He holds over 20 patents and has published over 40 papers. He has been recently appointed to the Advisory Board of the Aston University Institute of Photonics.
Senior Vice President, Global Sales
Gary Otake joined Xtera in 2004 and serves as the Senior Vice President of Global Sales. Gary leads the global sales team with responsibilities for customer relationships and sales worldwide. Gary has more than 25 years of experience working in International Business.
Prior to Xtera, Gary served as Senior Vice President of Global Sales for Extreme Devices and as Vice President of Sales (Japan Region) for Photon Dynamics (now part of Orbotech). Gary also worked for Raychem, a $2.0 billion, multi-national materials science company, as Regional Account Executive. Prior to Raychem, Gary spent 14+ years with ESI where he held positions of Senior Account Manager, Director of Business Development as well as management and engineering positions for the Semiconductor Products Division, their most successful division with over 90% market share worldwide.
Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer
Dr Herve Fevrier joined Xtera in 2000 and serves as the Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer. He provides both the strategic and tactical leadership that leads to the acquisition of new customers, development of new products, partnerships with vendors, and developers of complementary technologies.
Prior to Xtera, Dr Fevrier spent more than 17 years with Alcatel in a wide variety of responsibilities including Director of the Photonic Networks research unit, Sr Director for DWDM Product Development Worldwide, VP & GM Optical Networks Alcatel USA and VP Network and Product Strategy Alcatel Optics. Dr Fevrier received his doctoral degree in Physics from the University of Paris and he holds a Physics engineering degree from the Ecole Centrale de Paris.
Corporate Executive Vice President and Managing Director, AMEA
Les Barkley joined Xtera in 2011 and serves as the Corporate Executive Vice President of Xtera Communications and the Managing Director of Xtera Asia, Middle East and Africa. For more than 25 years he has worked extensively in the international private sector and in multiple capacities on behalf of the U.S. and foreign governments.
Prior to Xtera, Les was contracted by the U.S. government to provide consultation services to U.S. businesses seeking assistance in international expansion and finance. He has held senior management positions in global business development, sales and M&A with a number of privately and publicly held U.S. and offshore technology and industrial companies, including Willow Creek Partners, ESI, Photon Dynamics and MGR Nuclear, Ltd. Les is the co-founder and past Director of Gateway International Investment Co., Ltd (China), and co-founder and past Managing Director of Sun Group International, Ltd, one of the first joint venture and investment advisory firms licensed by the government of China.
Senior Vice President, Americas
Manuel Andrade joined Xtera in 2006 and serves as the Senior Vice President of Sales of North and South America and Iberia. Manuel has more than 20 years of experience working throughout Asia, Europe and Latin America in the telecommunications marketplace with a broad range of sales management, engineering, and software development experience.
Prior to Xtera, Manuel was the VP sales CALA at Meriton Networks. He was President of the Caribbean and Latin American Regional Business Unit for ECI Telecom Ltd. Before ECI, Manuel was the Vice President of International Business Development for Daleen Technologies and spent several years at Westell Technologies where he was Vice President of International Operations. His academic background includes a Master's degree in Computer Science and an Electronics Engineering degree from the Military Institute (IME) in Brazil.
Chief Technology Officer, Terrestrial Systems
William Szeto joined Xtera in 2011 and serves as the Chief Technical Officer of Terrestrial Systems. He has over 35 years of experience and is well-seasoned in the telecom industry. Bill is active with the standard communities and was the Vice Chair of ATIS’s OPTXS OHI committee. He is also active with the ITU-T SG 15 on optical transport and Ethernet.
Prior to Xtera, Bill was the Founder, President and CEO of Ceterus Networks until 2003 and Chief Technology Officer until 2009.
Prior to Ceterus, Bill was President and CEO of Iris Labs, the Senior Manager of Sprint for 28 years, the CTO for Monterey Networks and Principal Technologist for the Core Optical Transport Business Unit for Cisco Systems. During that, he was a member of the Board of Directors for the Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF). Szeto holds a BSEE and an MBA from Ohio State University and is a registered professional engineer in the state of Ohio and Kansas.
