Marine Manager/Director (Junior or Senior)
We seek a Marine Manager/Director to join our Team in the UK.

Location: Ideally UK based (Harold Wood/London or remote)
We are looking for an enthusiastic person to manage the Marine installation related aspects of subsea telecoms installation projects as part of a skilled team. This includes coordination and management of engineering, design, supply chain, field works and acceptance with the objective of delivering the project on time and on budget.
The role is truly multi-disciplinary as it involves understanding and orchestrating a number of different aspects, such as submerged and land-based equipment, transmission technology, surveys at various locations, cable manufacturing or installation. It also involves working with several contributors, both internal and external to Xtera.
Another key element of the role is being the interface between Xtera and the customer. As such you are expected to play a key role in the day-by-day communication with the customer as well as facilitating efficient communication with other parties involved in the project, such as consultants or subcontractors.
Cover and advance the following areas
Strategic

Act as Company point of contact for all marine operations and associated strategy

Develop and maintain Xtera’s network of partners for marine works, such as survey, installation, shore end works and other related activities
Sales & Marketing

Advise on all marine matters to enable innovative sales solutions, working with Xtera’s network of independent marine suppliers.

Provide budgetary estimates using company tools to estimate marine pricing for future projects, setting parameters for progress rates, day rates, estimates for speciality services, in line with regional and industry norms

Provide inputs and review Plans of Work for bids and tender responses
Subcontractor Management

Prepare and evaluate RFQs for all marine activities (including desk top studies, marine surveys, cable recovery, shore end operations, marine installation, and land cable operations) as required for projects or tender responses

Field all questions and queries from vendors, adjudicate proposals and recommend preferred supplier for the operation.
Project Management

Negotiate contracts with the chosen suppliers from RFQ process and manage through the project and manage Xtera scope for any other marine operations such as cable and pipeline crossings, fisheries liaison, guard vessels, and cable awareness programmes

Work as key member of Xtera Project Management team during contract closure and project execution towards meeting Plan of Work dates, manage the budget and mitigating risks
Keep customers advised of marine progress by regular reports and meetings; organise and chair RWGs/MWGs, participate in other progress meetings as required

Recruit and manage shipboard representatives for marine operations, including briefings, terms of reference, and documentation materials and support during operations

Decide on marine strategy, advise on spares quantities, jointing piece parts, maintenance best practices and provide input to O&M manual
General

Act as Xtera’s representative in marine related organisations (e.g. ICPC, ESCA) and at relevant conferences

University graduate or Master Mariner

Other Requirements
-
Ideally a minimum of 5 years’ experience in marine operations and significant experience in a senior (project) management position in the marine installation industry.

Familiarity with quality and health and safety standards

Knowledge of tools such as MSOffice including MSProject
