We are looking for an enthusiastic all-rounder to join the Xtera Product Design team to develop state of the art telecommunications equipment for use in subsea cable systems. This encompasses both high reliability submerged and terrestrial equipment. The role involves working with a broad range of products that contain a mix of electronic and electro-optic technologies.
- Design of circuits to provide the functionality required for a particular product.
- Use of schematic tools to capture circuit designs.
- Experience of the processes of PCB layout and manufacturing, and PCB population.
- Generation of appropriate documentation.
- The ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and written, for the presentation of new designs in peer reviews and formal product reviews.
- Review and provide input to designs being developed by peers, throughout the design cycle.
- Digital electronics – microcontrollers, memory devices, FPGAs (VHDL, from specification through to verification), serial interfaces – SPI, I2C and Ethernet.
- Analogue electronics – op-amps, filters, DC-DC convertors, ADCs, and DACs.
- Electro-Optics – Lasers, PINs, Modulators.
Honours Degree in Electronics Engineering or Physics with Electronics.
This position would suit a graduate with 2 or more years’ experience of product development in the telecommunications sector.

Customer Support Field Engineer

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join the Xtera Customer Service team in turning up Fiber Optic Subsea DWDM telecommunication systems. The scope of work covers a wide range, such as installation, manufacturing, customer training, design documentation and remote support for our submerged and land-based equipment. It also involves international travel, and working with several contributors, both internal and external to Xtera.
Another key element is being the interface between Xtera and the customer. You are expected to be a lead contact in the day-by-day communication with the customer. As well as facilitating efficient communication with other parties involved in the project, such as consultants or subcontractors.

Provide support to our customers working with Transport Engineering, Planning, Network Operations, and Project Management groups.

Provide product support for DWDM and Submarine product lines including testing and turn-up, customer lab trials, and field trials.

Develop test plans for DWDM trials and field implementation.

Develop MOPs (Methods of Procedures) for specialized installation and/or testing requirements.

Provide technical support for Network personnel and be part of a team that is available for 24/7 customer responses.

In addition, the ideal candidate will assist with the development of training and present training sessions to customers on DWDM products and applications.

Work as part of a team to update product documentation and work closely with engineering and planning groups to help with to design, optimize, quote, and implement DWDM applications.

System Engineer

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to “build the Internet” by joining the Xtera System Engineering team. You will play a key role the implementation of fibre optic undersea transmission system projects which are the backbone of today’s connected world.
The exciting role offers the opportunity to work in a multi-disciplinary environment as it will involve not only optical transmission technology but allow expanding into a number of different exciting areas, such as submerged and land-based equipment as well as surveys at various global locations, cable manufacturing or installation on land and at sea. It will involve some travel and working with several suppliers and stakeholders, both internal and external to Xtera.
Another key element of the role is acting as technical interface between Xtera and the customer during bidding or project implementation. As such you are expected to play a key role in the day-by-day communication as well as facilitating efficient communication with other parties involved in the project, such as consultants or subcontractors.
To manage or perform the following aspects of submarine system engineering:

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to manage subsea telecoms installation projects as part of a skilled team. This includes coordination and management of engineering, design, supply chain, field works and acceptance with the objective of delivering the project on time and on budget.
The role is truly multi-disciplinary as it involves understanding and orchestrating a number of different exciting aspects, e.g. submerged and land-based equipment, transmission technology, surveys at various locations, cable manufacturing or installation. It also involves working with several contributors, both internal and external to Xtera.
Another key element of the role is being the interface between Xtera and the customer. As such you are expected to play a key role in the day-by-day communication with the customer as well as facilitating efficient communication with other parties involved in the project, such as consultants or subcontractors.

This is a challenging role, and we are looking for a Systems Administrator who will service our in-house and cloud-based infrastructure.
The Systems Administrator operates under the Director of Information Technology. The Systems Administrator is responsible for installing, maintaining, upgrading, and patching server software, applications, and hardware to ensure that our technology infrastructure runs smoothly and efficiently. The Systems Administrator is the first point of contact for any IT related questions/issues and provides hands on technical support. This position requires interacting with all levels of team members within our global organization, including external parties, over multiple time zones.
The person in this position works under general supervision, is responsible for various shifts, may be subject to over 40 hours per week and/or callback as required, and may also be required to travel as necessary.
The successful applicant will be ambitious, highly motivated and have superb communications skills. You will be responsible for the overall management of the hardware and software systems that encompass our environment including but not limited to:
